White House Announces Federal Employee Layoffs as Funding Gap Approaches Three-Week Mark
Administration officials confirmed the initiation of government employee terminations on Friday, following through on prior threats linked to the continuing federal funding lapse, which is now poised to extend into its third straight week.

While the official did not specify which departments were impacted, a treasury spokesperson confirmed that notices had been distributed within that department. Additionally, a DHS representative noted that staff reductions would take place at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. Also, a labor organization for federal workers announced that employees at the Department of Education would be affected by the staff cuts.
Labor Reaction and Legal Challenges
Union leaders cautions that the terminations would have “severe consequences” on public services relied upon by the public and pledged to contest the moves in the legal system.
